Step 1. What is compartmentation

Compartmentation refers to the division of parts of a cell, and the compartments are called organelles. Compartmentation occurs by the presence of a semi-permeable membrane which permits selective transport of substances across the different organelles.

Step 2. Advantage

Eukaryotic cells have developed this compartmentation as a process of evolution to increase efficiency. This partition helps all processes to take place in a confined area where there are no disturbances with the processes taking place in other organelles.

Yet, semi-permeable compartmentation allows coordination between these organelles. The compartmentation facilitates the occurrence of all metabolic processes with high accuracy. This is responsible for the overall better growth and complexity of eukaryotes.
